i want to stop reading 😭 but i'm almost at the end

right, i've decided, i hate it. will elaborate in the review.

weird so far. very explicit, unexpectedly so. it feels like a noir film. very male.

it is delightful. sometimes i read books and i find it hard to believe someone was brilliant enough to pen it. and yet it's here, printed on pages, ready for my perusal.

suddenly the writing i found so pretty starts to feel overwritten :(((

breathtaking. entrancing. i love it.

this sucks so far and i am almost certainly going to drop it. the characterisation is abysmal. there is no mystery. it's a painfully male book, written from an undeveloped, outdated male perspective (the book is outdated as well which explains it), with cartoonish male characters. started reading it after watching the lovely dept q, and hats off to the producers for their fresh perspective on a not great text.

it's very nice so far. obviously not very theoretical or intellectually demanding but i appreciate john green's consistent effort to include global perspectives and history and not focus exclusively on europe/n. america. also just a big fan of his takes in general; he's refreshingly woke.

i've started the audiobook so my pace will be slow as a snail until at some point i'll decide to switch to the text in order to finish it quicker

can't wait to experience it all come together

i'm struggling with this book. the portrayal of her husband is so repulsive that i find myself wishing to put this down so i can stop feeling enraged. the descriptions of a toxic relationship with a worthless man from 200 years ago seem disturbingly realistic. it's so interesting how human tendencies and habits are universal and impervious to time.
