In a Sunburned Country
My first Bill Bryson and it's about my favourite and the most fascinating corner of the world. Earlier this year, I read a Tamil travelogue about Australia and mentally comparing the perceptions of these two very different writers as I run along with this book.

To the Elephant Graveyard : A True Story of the Hunt for a Man-Killing Indian Elephant
Snobbery incarnate, this whining British guy Tarquin portrays India as a special edition of perdition peopled by uncivilized boors. This vapid book would've been out the window by now were this not a true incident. *Reading through gritted teeth*

If you are a fairly serious reader who reads dozens of (mostly good) books in succession, do you continue reading because all the books you read really excite you? Do you abandon midway all the ones that don't stimulate you? Or, do you read one book after the other mechanically without deriving much pleasure? Were you ever bored because even the good books don't really EXCITE you much anymore? Any similar experience?

புல்வெளி தேசம்: ஆஸ்திரேலியப் பயணம் [Pulveli Desam: Australia Payanam]
Australia has always fascinated me and this book has some mind-blowing geographical & cultural insights about the island country. Architecture, art, topography, general history, environmental history, politics, language, oppression & immigration - this book is A Short History of Nearly Everything Australian. This shows what an insightful mind can do with travel books.

Singling out the good books from that ocean of crappy books in a book fair is a delicate art in itself. Seriously who the fuck are Danielle steel, norah roberts and Jodi picoult?

Just recently found that Kindle has Tamil books! Surprising. 9 out of 10 books in the "Literature" section are crap. But, the worthy books are available for a great price! Google Play Books has a good Tamil collection, but does not have a language filter exasperatingly. Kindle Store has a language filter but doesn't have a good collection.

Wow. I had no idea that Henry James & Oscar Wilde were arch enemies. James sure was insanely jealous of Wilde though.

I'm at the part where the hero is arguing that politics of hatred would never work out in a society and the irony of seeing Trump win - something's going wrong with humans.
