This battle and the proceeding events is really helpful in understanding Lee's mindset going into the Battle of Gettysburg. It also highlights the flawed but critical role Fighting Joe Hooker played in righting the Union ship.

Every page is tremendous.

Holland has not disappointed in his preface and first chapter. In 2003 he was a strong writer. Holland brings to life the ideal, conflicting visions, and common bonds of the Roman Republic as it rose to power. Such good writing so far!
