Absolutely brutal what these men went through. No idea how they had the fortitude to persevere

I’m loving this weird, disturbing book from the early 1900s. What a find! The somewhat illustrations at the beginning of each chapter just amplify the dark feel to the story.

Not what I typically read, certainly appreciate how I’m not getting bogged down by the prose.

This book is insane, can’t believe Mishima wrote it.

Will get around to this at some point. Author of The Coldest War brought it up in his memoir and I’d never heard of it previously. Fantastic find.

About time I read more personal accounts of WWII from the Australian perspective, pacific theater this time. Will need to keep an eye out for any written by veterans of the siege of Tobruk afterwards.
