Just finished the chapter on STIs. One of my favorite facts currently is that “small” pox is so named in contrast to the “great” pox, which the former antedates in European populations. And the great pox is syphilis. Feldman talks at length about or around syphilis without mentioning its notable position among poxes, nor the possibility it was imported from the Americas by Columbus et al. Seems like a miss.
