Harkness once again raised interesting stakes to start and once again they’ve vanished and I’ve no clue where it’s going now or what the point is. Why are we spending a whole chapter on wedding that, as far as I can see, serves not purpose to the plot. I blame Harkness but also her editor. Go back to the interesting stuff, not this filler.

Entirely gripped. Magical and page-turning. Harkness is a wonderful writer too BUT in serious need of an editor. You do not need to list every item you put into suitcase, describe every jumper you wear, and the minutiae of every course of a 3 course meal. Also slightly too much telling rather than showing imo.

Struggling with this, possibly due to being a ‘modern’ reader. There’s very little plot but it’s also not ‘slice of life’ but rather a novel built of random tangents, some of which are funny but most of which, unfortunately, are somewhat boring.

It’s good but there’s a notable lack of imagery or visual description. As someone familiar with Hindu mythology and India, I’m fine - but for someone unfamiliar, I expect this would leave something to be desired.

It’s good. Really good. It’s been a long time since a book has kept me up beyond midnight, promising myself only one chapter more.

I get that it’s fiction but no one talks like this. Also too many ‘cute’ scenes that literally serve no purpose. And some scenes are SO dragged out with pointless details and bickering it becomes boring. This needed a good editor.

Unfortunately a little more telling than showing at the moment. Also plot has lost its way a little. Started off engaging and with high stakes, now not entirely sure where’s it’s going, what the tension is, and appears to be no stakes?

I may or may not just have been brought to (a very mild case of) tears and heartache on a beach.

Stiefvater’s prose never fails to be entirely gorgeous, as is the world building, however the tinges of tedium are beginning to creep in. Over half way now and it’s not entirely clear to me where the plot is supposed to be going, nor any hooking or engaging plot point that I should be following. I supposed I’m still waiting for something to happen.
