Another thing that's getting to me is that Fallon and Vogel are almost all of the bad guys. There's some friction between them, but I'm wondering what the religious fanatics back in Valgard think of what Vogel is doing. He's pretty obviously evil, and I'm not buying that all Gardnerians are with him, not even the most powerful.

Finding it very hard to justify using my daily reading time on this, for several reasons. Especially when I want to read something else.

"The Icarii, banned from their traditional homes further south, indulged their love of mysticism and magic, their love of the seduction, and their undoubted talent for interior decorating."

This book's not bad, despite a few odd word choices. I'm just not that interested in a swashbuckling, Count of Monte Cristo kind of thing.

Twice the author has misused "they."

A bit irritating. Getting to the point where I wonder if I should finish.

Okay, not sure where I got lost but I am a bit confused. Hadrian (after "re-spawning") is locked in some kind of conflict with the people who are defending him from the Empire. It feels like a big chunk was cut out, right at page 430.
