Does this book ever get good? :|

A seemingly simple, beautifully written story so far. Two quotes made me think (amongst many, many good ones – my book is riddled with penciled notes):-

"There’s nothing worse than being alone when you aren’t strong enough to face your own thoughts."

"You’ve got to make yourself believe you aren’t alone, even if you are."

The prose is unlike anything I've ever read. So thoughtful, so sad. Masterful.

Essential reading if you possess even a passing interest in the homosexual identity and its evolution through our contemporary times. Sharp and assertive writing, steeped into personal experience that is enlightening as it is humbling and at times shocking.

An absolutely delightful and engaging prose.

I'm reading the original book in Arabic alongside the English translation side by side. The Guardian wasn't exaggerating when it said Blasim is the best contemporary Arab writer.

I'm engrossed.

Silky smooth prose. Every single sentence is captivating. On its way to be an instant classic.

Very interesting turn of events. My first Yates, and I'm quite enjoying the mundanity of John Wilder's life, and how much of a roller-coaster it suddenly seems to often get. Slightly reminds of Mad Men.

I'm not having fun. Abandoning this.
