It was good to be reminded of the indigenous people in Sweden, the Sami, whose culture centers on herding reindeer and navigating oppression from a dominant culture that devalues their connection to the land, the environment and their animals. It’s similar to the oppression of indigenous people in US and the systematic slaughter of bison. Their resilience of the Sami in this coming of age story captivated me.
