Finished! From years of Torah Study I have a keen interest in the ancient Temple, but I had only read Torah commentary. This is an academic work with combines Bible with history with respect to the priests, Temple & vessels, and ritual. I learned a great deal.

Amazing book! Geraldine Brooks is the skillful novelist who I always dreamed to be when I was a child. She has amazing story-telling skill. And I gained additional self-understanding. Not to be missed!

I wouldn't normally read a novel about the Plague, but I like to have a work of fiction to mix in with my history reading and Geraldine Brooks is a masterful writer.

When were the ark and the cherubim removed from the Holy of Holies, and what became of them? What was the difference between the Mishkan and the Tent of Meeting? Fascinating questions!

Academic study out of Hebrew Unversity in Jerusalem. The first section is about early altars, the bamot -- high places, the early sanctuaries, and, of course, the First Temple in Jerusalem. So far,so good. On to the priests!

I love historical fiction and I have a soft spot for Maggie Anton's books. Fun to get lost in Bavel.

Compelling argument for the primacy of geography, and the scenarios that could result in the Middle East.

Interesting insight on the process of reading "voweled" Hebrew (bottoms up,sounding out the words) versus "unvoweled" (tops down, word recognition). But even in "unvoweled", we are decomposing the word into roots, patterns, prefixes, and suffixes to figure it out. Also, interesting insight into reading silently, versus reading aloud (naming) and what that means for "voweled" and "unvoweled" Hebrew.
