I’m getting sucked in, help. I’m glad, however, that I’ve watched the 2024 show because it allows me to brush over the book’s 70s flaws whilst still getting a more detailed experience.

I can't trust when the marketing says "X meets Game of Thrones" because it often ends up as code for "there are lots of names doing political scheming with a side-serving of shocking violence" whilst failing to realise we care about the scheming and violence in ASOIAF because it's so entwined with character drama. Anyway this has taken me way too long to read.

I feel like this book was written more for the joy of writing flowery prose, character banter, worldbuilding, and exploring its lore, and less for the joy of … doing a narrative. I'm approaching the halfway point, and it still feels like we're doing set up.

I’ve been neglecting this fantasy Japan for Sekiro fantasy Japan unf

The prose is killing me by inches, the dialogue howlingly juvenile, the drama and conflict agonisingly dull (because I do not give a good goddamn fart about these characters), and WHERE DRAGONS, HUH???

Well, at least I can 100% confirm the “Eragon for adults” lift pitch is accurate. Maybe a bit too so.

I have tickets to a launch event, and was immediately taken out by how 1:1 the structure is with Eragon, including the sole complaint about the empire being its high taxes, a strange hunt, and exposition-via-storyteller! I have also heard it is very WoT, but I have not read so cannot confirm.

Slamming this (very enthusiastically) so I can see the movie on the weekend 👉😎👉

The structure of the book is WHACK and a choice I don’t particularly like, but on we go.

This book does not need to be this long 🙃
