Although this book is about Korean culture, I could have written it so far! It starts with Michelle crying in H Mart after her Mother’s death because food was such a connection for them, I had a similar experience crying the day after my grandmother died as I was eating specialties that she had prepared for me the day before.🥲

This book is a Classic! A must read. I’m in the middle of my own Migration of sorts, away from people who can not accept me for who I really am and those who do not treat me with respect. The timing of this book in my life could not be more perfect.

As I am reading this book, I am underlining little gems that are so pertinent in today’s climate.

“He was profoundly committed to setting people free and making them whole. He touched people at the deepest level. He wanted to heal not only blindness and leprosy but also the things that prevented joy and beauty and freedom and justice.”

I’m struggling a little with this book in that at times it’s a little heady for me. That being said, my eyes are being opened to racism in a way that I never saw it before, therefore , worth the read. I will continue it along with “The Warmth of Other Suns”, which so far, I can’t put down!

I’m enjoying so far, very much!

This quote is one of many that give you a kick in the gut.

Captivating!

I love the writing, the story and I am reading this as I am currently in the physical location it was written about! Doesn’t get any better. I’m savoring it.........

I just started, but am drawn in and love the writing so far.

I read the first chapter and can not continue. This has to be the most poorly written book I’ve ever read. Back to the drawing board!
