Ellis writes about the Never Land of free individual interaction in harmony envisioned by Jefferson in the 2nd paragraph of the Declaration of Independence. In this, April 2026, the paragraph brings me to tears. It is our semiquincentennial this year & the president in office is Trump. It does indeed fall to us to "move America an increment closer to the full promise" of the Declaration. We cannot let fascism win.
