Halfway through. and I'm flying through the book. It genuinely doesn't feel like I'm reading, it's so effortless...but I don't love the book in any shape or form. Just can't tear my eyes away.

Are you telling me, she tried to kill Alrik and fight him, but just in an exposition type of way, so we can't even experience it? Whhhyyy....why skip over the good bits

The backstory is not weighty enough for me to commiserate with the heroine. Stop blaming your mother for a start. And I honestly don't think 3 weeks is enough to wipe out 18 years of upbringing. I do think Pepper Winters is an excellent writer though (previous works) but yet again, I'm perplexed by the subject matter...maybe the intention? I'll continue

Chapter one, and the female lead is blaming her mother for being a target? "Oh, fuck you, mother, for instilling self-esteem into me, looking after me well and protecting me from the horrors of the world. It's all your fault I got kidnapped by a prostitution (I think it's prostitution, some details are vague) gang."

I have to read further to comment, but my hackles are already up

Planting drugs, just because you don't like someone. Isis and to a lesser extent, Jack are legends in their own minds. Apparently, their matching intellect is unparalleled to none, what with talking about Freud, and other stuff to each other. If these guys are supposedly intelligent, then I must've been a MENSA member. Which I find hard to believe.

Goal of the month: Learning how to plait hair 8 different ways. Five down, three to go. Left it late, only starting yesterday. Now I am official master of fishtail braid, four-strand braid, rope braid, french braid and dutch braid. Next up: waterfall braid, ladder braid and halo braid. Ladder looks most complicated. Allow that for now.

After I read this in English, I'm going to reread this all in French. I remember when I was 5, I couldn't read that well books geared toward my age, but a few years later (like when I was 8), being able to understand everything. That's exactly what's going to happen here. Just watch :D

Countdown to reading "Outlander" begins. 3, 2, 1...

Poor chauffeurs. Whilst people are busy getting their rocks off, knowing the driver can hear, he (it's usually a he) has to drive around, listening to pornographic noises. That's not part of the job description. I feel sorry for every one of them. Unless, they like listening in....???

Out of all sequels, I didn't see myself picking this up first. Particularly because the 1st one bored the bejeesus out of, until it got very exciting in the last third. I vaguely remember the characters though. Let's proceed!
