Nope. I’m gonna have to pause til I can read the real book. As the emotions get more intense, her bad-as-a-brand-new-anchor-woman narration gets more and more noticeable and distracting. Dang it. I can tell this book is well written. Just very poorly performed.

Avoid the audiobook. She reads each sentence with the same exact cadence and fake sparkly emotion no matter what the actual text says.

Really trying to figure out where this book is going…and how I heard about it.

Completely enthralled by the main character, Maggie.

I think I’m going to start a new hobby of finding movie/book characters who were written as neurodivergent but neither the author nor the reader would have labeled them that way. As a kid I would have simply labeled her as “highly relatable.”

Weird book with slow pacing. In the Wikipedia article (I need help remembering characters), the author is quoted that her inspiration was to study why it seems that writing children’s books is not necessarily good for the author’s own children. This book is an exploration of that. Yup. Lots of artistic adults are awfully counter cultural because they’re screwed up…or vice versa.

What an amazing gentle writer.

Not to be read while hungry.

Oh for the love. How much can my eyes roll?
