the best history book i've ever read...

this is a quite demanding book in case you want to settle in your mind all the information presented. but it has equally extraordinary, unique approach.

ilk iki kitabindan cok daha oturakli. iyi kitap.

simdiye kadar kitabin ilk 2 kismi icinde en dikkat cekici bolum 11inci bolumdu. Tahmin edilemezlige olan imanlariyla Popper, Poincare, Hayek abiler soyle bir gorunup kayboldular. 13uncu bolum hayatinizi nasil yasamaniza iliskin tavsiyeler manzumesi.

I feel like the college student tortured by the professor. I think this book fails big in giving a coherent picture...

Levin gibi güzel bir insanı (henüz) üzmediği için Tolstoy amcaya müteşekkirim.

En çok şaşırtan yerler belki kitabın en durağan yerleri oldu. Baharın gelişini öyle tarif etmiş ki otların çiçeklerin toprağın kokusunu duyuyorsunuz. Vronski'nin atının yarış öncesi heyecanını neredeyse atın yanında izliyorsunuz. Levin'in köylülerin çıkarı ile kendi çıkarı arasındaki çelişkiyi farketmesi, bu sınıf mücadelesi daha iyi edebiyata dokulebilir miydi?

Üslup olarak Ömer Seyfettin'in Efruz Bey'ine epey benziyor. Geç Osmanlı'nın siyasi roman kahramanları mizah ve ironi olmadan anlatılamıyor galiba :)

As I read thru, I more feel that the explanations are based on some caricaturistic perception of the world, examples seem chosen cherry-picked. Yet the author partially confesses that. Still a good start for the subject.

I'd agree with a comment from wikipedia saying Diamond strokes brushes very wide. Additionally, one feels he cherry-picks the data, presenting nearly no opposing views and nearly no references, may be due to the wide scope of work and may be due to the fact that the book was planned to be a popular scince book, even a best seller. Yet, for the unprofessional people, this is a very good staring point to gain an idea.

Bu kitabi yazarken, ozellikle de D'nin hislerini anlattigi yerlerde her kelime uzerinde dusunmus olmali yazar. Kayit 12'nin son kisimlarini cok begendim.
