Here's a mixed bag, I'm surprised by the tales which didn't do it for me, I was starting to get worried it would be a dud collection but then they improved and oh it's now becoming fun. I found a fragment of a blank cassette cover as a bookmark which implies that I've read this one before but stopped at page 467. I hope to continue past where my younger self gave up. So far it's looking promising.

Big improvement in the book, exciting with a new and very creepy peculiar child just turning up; I expect the next 73 pages will go very quickly indeed

I'm at the start of the second trilogy and it did plod on something awful until it began to pick up recently; I'm starting to enjoy the book and expect the pace will keep at the current rate because they're too deep in it at the moment to relax.

A good lesson, if you find yourself incapable of moving, pick up a big book, lie on an electric blanket and read, snooze, feed the cat and read some more, maybe walk a bit, make coffee and read. I'm flying through this one, yes it does drag in parts, but that's to be expected of a book this size.
I'm back to work for the first time in 18 days and can't wait to return to the book.

Eh, this was one I was looking forward to, but to be honest, there's times when it's extremely boring but then it's grand until you look at what's left and you think oooh, unsure if I can slog through another boring segment, at the moment, not bored, let's hope this lasts until the end

So, I'm two stories into volume 2 and loving this original collection of short stories, the overly descriptive sex scenes that tarnished his later work are blissfully absent here and he's concentrating on strong stories told in a perfectly concise manner
Vol 1's only weak story was Sex, Death and Starshine, which was slow but concluded nicely.

Oh this is a mighty novel, none of your cuddly nonsense here, these vampires and Wamphryi are just raw, nasty monsters which don't discriminate; it's a compulsive satisfying read that renews my childhood fears of vampires.

Totally enjoying the book, it's a compulsive fascinating read and the exquisite writing and wit blended with the holy god violence deters me from the inter-net or socialising in any form, if it wasn't for work and my mother I wouldn't meet anyone whilst reading these books.

So, 200 pages in, the writing is beautiful, the characters are solid and enjoyable to read, but, well, there's not really that much happening. I kept hearing great things and hope it doesn't turn into a novel of higher praise than content.
I'll persevere for another 100 pages after that I'll have to decide whether I'll stick with it or not

This is certainly the most complex fascinating Clive Barker read I can recall. I'm taking my time savouring this well written novel pregnant with insanity and chaos.

This has certainly become one of my favourite books of the year, compulsive reading, realistic depiction of operations and the wit is fantastic, closer to my memory of the film rather than the series. A wonderful read,

I'm amazed by this book, I was fed up with the Dark Tower when I finished it seven years ago and wasn't happy when this came out but now I see how wrong I was, a great fresh read that reminds me of what I used to love about the Dark Tower world before it got bogged down with the excess stuffing that made the last two books a chore to read.

Bryan D is on page 752 of 953 of The Gormenghast Trilogy
I have read Gormenghast, a more satisfying novel than its predecessor; tension galore, insanity and high mortality count made this a novel seem like a fine whiskey, take small sips, savour the experience and make it last as long as possible, refusing the inevitable conclusion until the very last minute. A joy to read but my brain needs rest before I advance with the third book.

I finished Titus Groan on December 3rd and am taking a break before I move onto Gormennghast. The first book is an exceptional novel with wonderfully rounded insane characters, lots of surprises and an ending that makes me look forward to the second offering which I may return to in the new year.
