So far, it seems this book is about everything surrounding Laura, and not much actually about her. In the beginning, there was so much background about Indian disputes, then history about the homestead act, and now way too much about her daughter Rose, who is psycho and unlikeable. In exploring all the caveats, the author misses the point about why these books are so loved. It’s ok to have a little bit of heroism

I think Hugo wanted to write a treatise on architecture but his publisher was like, nope, so he stuck it all into this book instead.

Also good. She spends a lot of time talking about visiting her cousins in this one. But I love her uncle’s encouragement of her reading, and how she describes the change in relationship with her mom.
