This is interesting stuff. Granted, a lot of the science observations of structural differences between male and female brains is like, duh, just ask anyone who's been married for a few years if male and female brains are different, but still. The female brain's fixation on faces and reading information through them offers an unexpected potential explanation for modern young women's obsession with selfies.

What would it actually DO to a human being to follow all the precepts of 12 popular self-help books for a year, one book per month? The results may not be pretty, but they're definitely funny.

Carl Hiaasen tackling the orange shit gibbon is a thing of beauty, it must be said. I figured it would be funny, but I didn't expect it to be THIS funny, nor this delightfully skewering.

The only reason I am still reading this is perverse curiosity to see if this idiotic lead character is going to die by the end, as he's taken approximately 576 pts of damage, by my estimate.

How to immediately make me not take you seriously. I'm barely into this and it's already heavy with influencer-speak, 'LOL's in the text, and other misc that just makes me cringe.

Barely even into this and already it's excellent and involving. I'm thinking I need to look up more of Reeman's books, he apparently writes them just for me.

Had to switch over to this for a mental health break from reading Bob Woodward's "Peril", which was even more stressful than I'd imagined. This is the perfect lighthearted change of pace.

This is fun so far, and a marvelous idea, but good god, the lead character is unlikable. If I bail out of this, it'll be because of wanting to slap her and tell her to stop being a whining goth.

Revisiting a personal favorite, partly because I needed a breather after the latest Joe Ledger book, and partly because this is one of the most enjoyable "summer vacation" books I've read.

I needed something upbeat after finishing another Elric book. This is as fun as always, though unfortunately the commitment to referring to the lead character as "they/them" is insanely annoying. I know today's gender warriors really want to push these genderless pronouns, but holy damn, it makes paragraphs hard to follow sometimes.

This book's biggest problem is that it turns on the tension of the hero struggling to decide if he should trust the Calvin & Meg family or a mystery group of opposed dudes, and if you've read any of the prior books you KNOW who the good guys are so there's not really any tension and all his internal debating just comes off as wasted book time.

My pet peeve with horror novels - Books that alternate chapters with the main cast with chapters with newly-introduced characters who are obviously there only to be killed. It's REALLY obvious when writers do this and it doesn't produce actual tension because you learn quick that these folks are only there to die.
