Rose not telling Zoe to call the damn cops makes ZERO sense.

Eve is a bird. There is no reality where I would give a shit about her goofy trifling ass. Dead ot alive. Rose is so dumb. Who goes out of their way like this for a loser who fucked their husband? Make it make sense. I’m invested atp though. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

I’m getting sick of Harriet tbh. Her being a cop is the reason she is so fucked up. Just like the previous books, everything in her life is so sad and depressing and heavy and gritty and hard and there is no joy in her life. Why is she written like this ?? as much as I love a black female lead in a mystery series this ain’t it. She is intentionally joyless to the point where it doesn’t even seem realistic.

This series is SO pro cop 🤮 and I get..it’s about a cop but still. Harriett is just as robotic, self deprecating and in need of therapy as usual. She’s finally in therapy in this one at least.

Sonny once being a cop and her lying cheating father being a cop and her STILL thinking cops have humanity and dignity is crazy work. Like girl, stop trusting these fuckshit police. They ain’t.

Sonny being shocked her dad was a cop who stole evidence and cheated on his wife is wild because of course he did those things. He’s a cop. Like, how is she this naive? But we put our dads on pedestals. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I love a Black centered mystery thriller with a Black female lead. I’m so enjoying this so far.

I like this book in the character so far, especially that it’s black centered. However, if young and dumb was a person it would be Mickey. I wish you’d been older than 24 and not as stupid especially when it comes to decision-making and reading people. And why is she so thirsty for Dexter? She just met that man like girl, “what is you doing??” It’s weird.

How and why did she believe Cooper white passing ass was single and getting a divorce? Ain’t no way he was getting a divorce. That’s always a lie.
Like, girl men lie all the time. How are you this stupid at your big age? As for London, Cooper’s wife, she’s a dummy too. Why are you with him when you’re the one with the real money? That man is trash 🗑️

So the murder mystery is moving along and it’s very interesting. But Sunny’s goofy ass is getting dragged by Cooper’s wife London. Sunny‘s goofy ass still wants to take his money which I understand but this only sounds good in theory, but not in practice.

No self respecting Black woman is is gonna date a Black man passing as white. Seriously. What in the antebellum fuck is happening? Why is Cooper passing for White in 2026. As smart as Sunny is written it makes zero sense for her to be involved with a self hating white passing fuckboy. 🤦🏽‍♀️

So far I’m enjoying this audiobook. Alyson aka Sunny is starting her new life in Haven, a sleepy and kinda racist Northern California town with her mom. The mystery is good and the people are messy AF. She’s also in love with a Black man (Cooper) who is passing as white and married. He lied about being single because of course and passing as white…wtaf. Loser.

Jac is the world’s dumbest amateur sleuth. Zero common sense. It’s like she’s never seen any episodes of Law and order or police procedural. She’s makes the dumbest choices all around starting with dating that narcissist professor. Just messy AF as well as stupid.

Penn is the younger sister who I really like. Their mom is nuts but is doing her best. She ALL about respectability politics which is why she’s such a mess. And this explains a lot about Jac who is just as nuts.

Jacinda “Jac” is annoying AF. She’s really getting into this loser role that people have put her in. But I’m invested in this mystery and I need to know who did it.

Okay I understand why she was written that way. My bad. That bitch is nuts! I’m supposed to be annoyed at that dizzy nincompoop.🤣

I am not interested in the Corrigan family and I am Ila. I don’t even care about Iris cancer this morning. I’m obsessed with this family. I would love a series TV or otherwise on their dynamics and how they came to be.

I’m not sure I understand Charlie’s role in the story. She felt shoe horned in.

Why is there no physical description of Isla looks like? Does she have light skin, medium, dark, kinky hair or a bussdown weave or what? This is irritating me if someone can find where she is described please let me know and comment. Help!!

Love it so far! But I wish Isla were 10 yrs older, more mature and confident & savvy. 26 is too young & she clueless. She’s behaving like a teenager imo. It’s hard to believe she’s infiltrating this powerful family. Anyone can see through her bullshit. Also, the chemistry between her and the eldest son Miles would play out much better if she were older.

So far this book is intriguing but Jane, the main character and the victim whom Allyson is representing in this book is insufferable AF. What happened to her was awful but instead of getting therapy she’s just an entitled asshole. Like, go get some therapy and leave us alone, but I’m gonna continue and see if it ends up being an decent read.

This is a 12 hr listen/ 400 page read so I may dip is it doesn’t pick up soon. 🫠

Dear white authors, when describing white women as beautiful, please say more than “she has, blonde hair and blue eyes”. Having blonde hair and blue eyes does not automatically make a person beautiful. That’s a result of white supremacy and racist. Please do better in the future. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
