It’s wildly disappointing to be 51% through a 20 hour long book and it not pass the Bechtel test.

DNF at 83% the reader is not great (mispronunciations and weird timing) and the story has fallen apart.

30% in gains some steam. And I’m enjoying it now.

Loved the first book, but only 10% in and the pacing of this is slow slow slow. The story and plot are pretty good so far, but it’s already a bit of a slog. And I’m not sure I have the interest.

Sidenote: one of the readers for the chapters (Unara) is one I have to speed up to 1.25x. .

DNF. I’m not super interested in where this is going.

MC’s don’t have to be likable this one makes the same mistakes over and over.

This book is kind of a mess plot and magic and romance wise? That said it’s a fun, easy read and the African based magic system is intriguing, it just doesn’t hold together as well as others in genre do.

DNF. Writing stylistically weak. Most characters fall flat. This Poison Heart is a much stronger work conceptually and stylistically.

Do not finish. Writing very weak.

This book is only okay so far. It’s feeling very predictable. May not finish.
