“The other man” and then “the other man” and still “the other man” yet again. Every time I’m screaming in my heart. I don’t know if I can get through this sex scene, much less the whole book

This is my first Heyer and it's not what I expected. Per the reviews, this might be the *worst* Heyer, and that tracks. Not loving it.

So far, this is lacking in any depth, which makes it dull for me.

So far, neither romantic nor comedic.

This is tedious. I'm not in a wine-y book club, so why am I reading this? Unclear whether I will finish.

OMG this is the second romance novel I've started, only to realize it's 1D fanfic. It's written with 5 characters--the main 2 guys, and the other 3, who are stuck to them like limpets/unlike real human men. Ugh. I doubt I'll finish this.

With its Venetian-flavored world, this reminds me a little of LIES OF LOCKE LAMORA, my all-time favorite fantasy-caper

This is fine, except I really wanted to read a story about an excellent bouncer and his club-related adventures, but this is ex-Special Forces doing lavish crimes, and I don't actually care about that.

I think this is just not my author.

Antoinette is hard and defensive and unlikable, and I understand why, but she's a hard character to be with for all this endless PROCEDURE. I like police procedurals, but this is really methodical.

Thanks, I hate this. The main character and especially her little son make my skin crawl.

I can't quite believe I care enough to read this, but we did just finish watching all of THE CROWN.

I'm INCREDIBLY disappointed this is a book about the little sister instead of Robin and Edwin. I wanted more of their story and I don't care about Maud at all.

People who have no inner lives have nothing and don't know to want anything. They're boring, tbh. I'm anticipating a DNF.

Monsters as a metaphor for queer people and POC, except most of the monsters actually, objectively suck, so it's not all that great a metaphor.

I can't be the only person who finds virtually all battle/fight scenes tedious. However, I'm pretty pleased that I've managed to get 85%+ into this book before one bored me.

1) Why are they not just getting together? I mean, they obviously want to, and there are no obstacles, so...why?
2) They are running around in fields and hillsides and woodlands in North Carolina. I just keep thinking of the chigger bites they would definitely have.

I'm enjoying this, but I'm having a hard time believing Gracewood wouldn't recognize Marleigh/Viola. I am enjoying, but I do not believe.

It's a bit unsettling how this writer revels in misery.

This is just so unrelentingly dull. A Little Life was ridiculous tragedy porn (and I loved it, in the moment), but this is emotionless and arid. I may DNF.

Beautifully written, with instances of the driest humor, but somehow I wasn't expecting something quite this elderly.

This is pretty bad. Even the most routine human interaction is rendered unbelievable. Nell is an idiot and Felix is delusional.

Goofy so far, with the heroine going ah-OOO-ga!! every time she looks at the almost-certain-to-be love interest.

This author's primary skill is creating scenarios of absolutely sickening sadness, which...do I *want* to feel like this? I'm not sure I do.

I am disappointed in how unengaged I am in this so far. I keep comparing it to NINTH HOUSE, which I couldn't read fast enough. I have the exact opposite feelings about the authors' YA titles.

This is not engaging me AT ALL and it should. I'm forcing myself to keep reading.

This has too much action for me, I think. It's an interesting world, but it's basically unexplored because people keep getting in highly-detailed fights.

This has everything, yet I am not enchanted. I think it must be a character flaw.

A clueless girl goes to Harvard and likes a boy and it's awkward. Instead of being funny or endearing, it's just excruciating. I don't know if I have enough patience for this.
