Who would have thought I'll be reading a cheese military book written in 6th century BC (yeap, before Christ 🤯)

And here am I. And astonishingly have to admit - I love it so far! I start to understand why many says it should be in the list of books to read at least once in your lifetime.

“One may know how to conquer without being able to do it" - great quote. And is as valid now as ages ago!

It's so twisted and weird, that I feel I'm drowning in the story.
And every next chapter I want to say "what, what's going on here?!"

This is not an easy read for sure. But I'm really curious how it unfolds.

/On chapter 14 now/

Finished Othello. One famous line was missing from the adaptation: “Have you prayed tonight, Desdemona?” In the original, it’s a chilling moment before the tragedy. It also shows that Othello have his wife a chance to "confess". In the comic, the scene is shortened so much that this quiet tension disappears, making Othello more shallow. Another reminder that these 48-page versions often cut the most powerful lines.

Finished Macbeth, the only play in this series I didn’t read alongside the original.

Gosh - the graphics are insanely cruel. All the books are tragedies, but this one actually made me shiver while turning the pages. The dark atmosphere and brutality come through strongly in the illustrations, making this adaptation stand out from the rest.Scene after scene feels unsettling, and the atmosphere is heavy with violence.

finished Hamlet-again disappointed. Original story is rich and layered, seeing it compressed into a 48-page comic simply doesn’t work for me.

One of the most important questions in the play - is Hamlet truly losing his mind or only pretending as part of his plan for revenge?
In the comic version, however, Hamlet simply looks mad.

At this point I’m realizing that short graphic adaptations are not for me.

So sad... How much pain and disappointment can be in someone's life, so you are afraid to trust or even stay at the same place for long, not to get attached?!..

The most sad part is that stories like this exist in life ... Kids should have childhood...

If they both feel that miserable, why not get separated?
I understand they have been together for 5 years, but clearly both are not happy for the past... 3, is it?

Play is written in "iambic pentameter":
-da-DUM da-DUM da-DUM da-DUM da-DUM
- 10 syllables per line. five stressed beats.
(had to google, no longer remembered)

I read that it's very close to the natural rhythm of English speech and breathing.

So obvious now why I love it - feels calming, steady, almost hypnotic when I read verses slowly.

Even though I don't always like the ploy, I am in love with his writing.

I finished King Lear. I’m so disappointed. While their adaptation of R & J worked surprisingly well, King Lear completely lost its power here.

How text is cut feels cruel. Large portions of the verse are stripped down, and with them goes the rhythm, musicality, and beauty of Shakespeare’s iambic pentameter(thanks google). Without that poetic structure, the emotional weight is none and the story feels flat.

Started this romcom while in the gym. And this is exactly a type of book I was looking for a change.
It makes me smirk and does not demand too much emotional energy. My brain doesn’t have to work, just float along and go!

Honestly, the plot is somewhat ridiculous (breaking weddings as a career, even as a side job, seriously?!), but kind of fun.

Finished reading the Illustrated Classics graphic novel edition of Romeo and Juliet from Magic Wagon, and it’s such a beautiful addition to the story! I absolutely love the illustrations - they add so much depth and emotion!

Now, the story itself is undeniably sad (and let’s be real: even my 12-year-old knows that getting married the first day you meet someone is… lame), but the language and artwork are incredible!

I am not yet calmed down after Jennette McCurdy's childhood and abusive mom, and now I dive into Stephen King's book where Carrie's mother is nothing but normal... Poor kid...

Gosh... What soulless freak can ask her daughter to practice the song for her mom's funeral 🙈
When I think it just can't get worse, it does...

As a mom, I just can't comprehend how her mom could do what she did, and say what she said....

"I am not your mom anymore.
P.s. don't forget money for the fridge" - insane... 🥺

Well, now, since I have a book from the school library (thank you, Emma), I can start reading it at last!

First few pages - and I can't stop thinking of Sam and how he was catching mice in our backyard... He would have been a great warrior cat. Miss him enormously ❤️

The way the Author describes Rusty's dream with a mouse brings lots of memories of Sam and his adventures in the neighborhood...

About halfway: this book is so hard to process. Seeing how normalized the abuse was, how fear replaced safety, and control was mistaken for love - that is just so heartbreaking.

Especially painful to realize how that shaped what she later accepted as “better" relationships - those chapters about her at 18 and Joe at 32... Gosh, just painful to go over those chapters...

Parents like that should not have kids...

Starting to listen to the audiobook book today. I was always curious to read the very first published novel by Stephen King. And this time eventually came!

Just discovered that he actually was ready to throw away the pages, thinking people would not read this in the magazine, when his wife Tabitha literally "fished" those out and said "Nope, this matters. Finish it ".

I had no idea who Cher was befor listening to this book. I just loved her song "You haven't seen the last of me"...

She had such an eventful youth, and it's incredible to watch her becoming. Yesterday I watched a few episodes of Sunny and Cher show , and then her own Cher show. Interesting "dive" into the 70th, and to see what people liked that time.

I am not yet done yet, but I'll definitely be waiting for part 2

this one lands quietly but firmly:

don’t mistake
salt for sugar
if he wants to
be with you
he will
it’s that simple

What makes this deep is how little it tries. There’s no pleading, no metaphor overload -just truth stated plainly.Illustration does half the work: salt and sugar look the same, but they are not the same.Intention reveals itself not in words, but in actions.
Love without confusion, clarity without cruelty

I can't understand why some people say it's not poetry... What is poetry ? Poetry is language distilled to carry emotion, truth, and beauty - sometimes with rhythm and rhyme, sometimes without - but always with intention.

If there is depth, feelings and beauty and if it's there, I calm it poetry. And Rupi Kaur texts are so deep and beautiful

i'm hopelessly

a dreamer and
that will be the
death of me

In the middle of Sonny years.
...
It’s heartbeaking because I can feel two truths at the same time: Her mom, Georgia Holt, had a genuinely hard, unstable life. And Cher was still very much left to raise herself emotionally.
What makes it especially sad is that it wasn’t cruelty - it was instability. Georgia was chasing survival, love, opportunity… but how could she abandon Cher so much...

It's hard to realize that there are Kids who’ve learned (over and over) that adults aren’t reliable, that love can be temporary, and that trusting people can hurt them... Easy to read, and hard to put the book aside, even when there are too many questions, and I'm not sure how I feel about the main characters. it's like reading about teenagers that had so many "adult" problems...

I love mystery and was looking for a book to recommend to my 12 year old daughter. this came up as a good YA for an earlier audience.

So far, easy to read, pretty dynamic, full of young girls"drama".
The main character is 12.
