This book about pharma has way more art in it than I expected... Although, I guess that one's me for not knowing what rich people get up to generally

This is not going to end well and I am so stressed

Ok I am too emotionally invested in these characters and I assume this is not going to end well.

Yikes.

Okayyyy I didn't know this was a book about a woman in STEM!

Two observations:

1) this book has already talked more about parks than I knew there was to say about parks (and I have a feeling we're not done with parks, yet).

2) I went in thinking this was the story of hero turned villain but am starting to realize it's actually the story of villain turned supervillain.

About 100 pages a month is very feasible. So far so good, the writing is captivating, we've learned about his family history up to his grandmother, his time in school and early career idealism.

Everyone in his family (incl/esp him) seems insufferable. I guess that's the point! Part 3 is entitled The Rise to Power and I cannot describe the way it has me looking forward to reading about how this awful man did it!

This book is mostly frustrating because I relate with all the most unlikeable characters LMAO.

Okay potentially unpopular opinion: Bero is maybe (?) the most interesting character of the series.

Not only just a great character but also like, I don't know how to phrase this, he's so well-designed into the plot?

Very morally two thumbs down but his fears, to a certain extent, are very human and relatable & his beliefs/actions asks so many interesting questions.

Really curious if the Kauls will ever take revenge on Bero... It's almost the end of 3 books and Bero is still chillin!

But also damn this book is... Damn.

Every single time I make a reference to another work it appears in the book 10 pages later.

“She’s not a place,” Chloe points out. “Or an idea. She’s a person.”
“Yeah,” Rory says. “But an idea can’t want you back. And I’m starting to think that was kind of the whole point.”

This quote (with some names changed) could literally have come out of Looking for Alaska.

For a bit there we were veering away from John Green novel & skimming a little too close to Gone Girl but we're coming back and I'm not mad.

AHAHAA OF COURSE THE REFERENCE TO JOHN GREEN.

So far this book is giving me a lot of gay Looking For Alaska vibes

The amount of stuff these people do in one day is incredible. This girl literally slept in, did a whole bath/self care cleaning, visited a friend, summoned a spirit, made a flower arrangement, had dinner with a suitor, and went to two parties in one day.

Meanwhile, I'm lucky if I answer an email.

Just started the book and I don't usually do progress updates but this book already has my heart ❤️
