One plus of the book over the TV adaptation is there's more detail of the court intrigue Jamie and Claire involve themselves with in Paris, even with some scenes that didn't make the show episodes. One minus is when it comes time for the battles, Claire is "told" of events rather than a reader seeing them "firsthand" from Jamie's viewpoint.

TV ... compression and narative speed. Book ... depth of characterization.
