Finally getting back to this second entry in Lumley's Necroscope series. Coincidentally a story about vampires (and ESPionage) coming on the heels of The Buffalo Hunter Hunter -- and it's a book that relies on stories within stories, same as its "ancestor."

So far a very nice handling of a story within a story within a story, as evidenced by a confession and it’s effect and its recounting, and what is likely a forthcoming analysis of all those tales.

Life intervening, so I will likely finish this early tomorrow. Lindsay is pretty good as a narrator when I listen to the audiobook, but when I read it without his voice I only hear Hall’s voice in my head as he embodies Dexter still to this day.

Michael C. Hall doesn't narrate the Dexter series. That privilege goes to the author. I'm hopeful he's a good narrator; who reads a book is crucial, and Hall did a laudable job with the two he reads in the King anthology. He gave a great performance with Pet Sematary. Strange to think I'd want to listen to a book soley because of the narrator.

I'm going back to the Deter series, having just finished Stephen King's Skeleton Crew, because the audiobook version had several narrators. One being Michael C. Hall on two entries, notably "The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet," and since I planned to read through these again I'm come back to this particular book after 15 years, my first time being back in 2011.

One story left to read to finish this collection. Several of the longer tales (besides "The Mist") are in the back end of Skeleton Crew.

What's most notable about some of King's short works (even longer tales) is he likes to write what I guess you could call "storyteller" ones, where someone tells a story to an audience. It takes a moment to fall into the story, as if you were sitting down with the narrator.

I made a lot of headway today, and I’m almost done with the flashback. I think a bit more than 300 pages is enough to call it a day.
