I liked this. Really, really liked it. Some fresh new ideas, an awesome "animal companion" angle (which really appeals to me when I'm playing a druid in our D&D game), well-written and balanced in all facets.

And then, at the 93% mark, it turned into an anime. *sigh*

I'm not really sure who the bad guys are or what the overall goal of the plot is, but you know what? It works. I'm learning right alongside the main character. Interesting read so far, good one for people who like military stuff that isn't constant balls-to-the-wall action.

Egads, it's like The Thing in space. Liking this one a lot so far.

Almost done with Book 1 now.
