Definitely more sex in this book than in the Culture series, but also a really engrossing, Arrival-esque plot structure. Definitely highly recommended.

This is a very interesting book. I highly recommend it to people who aren't put off by a bit of sex and darkness in their speculative fiction.

Very insightful analysis of the history of Obama's foreign policy team.

Engaging basic coverage of the political history of the 20th century. I highly recommend it for non-specialists looking for a thorough overview of the subject.

Book continues to be interesting, although the two chapters about Vietnam are a joyless slog. Which is appropriate, all things considered.

Somewhat nonplussed that volume 2 repeats the last two chapters of volume 1, although I understand the logic.

Closing in on the end of this book, and I have to say that this is one of the more engaging overview texts that I've ever read. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in the history of American Foreign Policy, but definitely buy an older version so you're not paying for the college markup.

This book is incredibly odd, but in an enjoyable way. Best read at night with the lights out.

This is a very different sort of book from Downbelow Station (It's single person limited third, for one thing) but Cherryh continues to build interesting, believable speculative fiction with politics that make sense.

This is a little bit of a slower burn than some of the other books I've read recently, but it's really engaging. I can definitely understand why Cherryh has the reputation she does in scifi circles.

This is a very, very good book. I am probably going to finish it all more or less in one go, and that hasn't happened to me with a new book in a long time.

Really enjoying this book, although I can definitely see where it is more specially suited to my tastes than the average sweeping science fictional caper.

Things are picking up, and I really appreciate Cherryh's dedication to following all of the logical threads of the narrative. Mostly this just makes me want a Downbelow Station short-run television show, in the spirit of the non-shit half of BSG.

I've been stalled out on this book for nearly a year, but I'm going to come back and finish it once my contract is over. It's not that it's bad, just that there's an ebb in the action and Sanderson's prose hasn't been enough to drag me through it when I have outside forces distracting me from reading. But I'm going to finish it, Fosse willing.

I am very much enjoying the facility with which Kushner uses the English language. I'm also terribly curious as to who will be the mentors in The Privilege of the Sword.
