I’ve just completed 4 chapters, and it’s beautiful to see how Munshi Premchand ji describes the scenes of marriage. His writing brought me a strange mix of nostalgia and frustration—reminding me of the marriages I’ve attended in my own family, where everyone seems focused on materialistic things, status, and showing off rather than the meaning behind the occasion.

I just finished Chapter 7, and for the first time I learned about the Adbhuta Ramayana, a lesser-known version traditionally attributed to Valmiki. In it, Sita is not portrayed as a helpless woman but as someone who demands her rights, stands strong, and is admired not only as Rama's wife but for her own strength and identity.

I just finished Chapter 3 of Chup. I often wondered why so many women obey unreasonable demands instead of resisting. This chapter made it click. Like a conditioned rat repeating a rewarded behavior, if respect, attention, and acceptance come only when you're silent, obedient, and self-sacrificing, most people adapt. You can see this not just in the book, but in your own homes.

I'm about to finish Chapter 2 of Chup. A big part of this book isn't just about women—it's also about Indian parenting. Many parents don't raise independent children; they raise obedient ones. A daughter's worth is measured by how well she adjusts, a son's by how well he obeys. The goal often seems less about the child and more about protecting the family's image, authority, and control.
