This book is ridiculous and there’s so many silly quotes … “Never trust a woman who wears mauve” is a great one

Enjoyed the sensory descriptions of Beirut as the city of dreams, and the characters’ inner worlds and what they hope to achieve there— just wish this was organized as short stories. The way the chapters are loosely strung together made it too hard to follow for me.

Beautiful! Do not give up after the first 50 pages because you think it’s smut. It turns into a complex romance set in the backdrop of 1989 Beijing and Tiananmen Square.

Calling love Stockholm syndrome. Comparing an easy BM to reading a summary of a fallen empire. Covering her entire body in tooth paste. Yes, this is my kind of book.
