Okay read. Not bad, but not great -- unfortunately I guessed both of the major twists very early on, which made them not very twist like. Shrug.

Note to authors: "torch" for flashlight in an American context is slightly jarring.

One good story, woo.

People, people, "said" is a perfectly good word! No need to quip and opine and suchlike. Really.

...and mediocre fanfic to boot. They use each other's name in dialogue pretty much every dang line -- who *does* that?

I'm not sure whether to be amused or frustrated that this story is literally Sherlock Holmes fanfic with a search and replace on the names. (Author wrote to ACD asking if he could write Holmes adventures, got a no in response, and published stories with different names but essentially the same. The serial numbers are still visible.)

Meh. Not impressed. Hope the other stories are better.

...I don't care if Irish is a real language and not a fantasy language -- scattering unnecessary terms through the story just jolts me out of it. Humph.

Slowness is due to RL issues, not lack of interest in the book. Though the writing/editing is driving me crazy. "Delivering pizza's" indeed.

So far the writing gets a B/B+ ... In addition to the comma thing, there are a couple of typos (an It for I, and desert for dessert) and a few words that feel off in usage (where it jarred me out of the story even though I knew what the author was going for). But the story is good, and the sort of light-hearted fluff that I desperately wanted after the depressing melancholy of the last book I read.

First page reaction: good humor, but abundance of commas (which is an unusual thing for me to be bothered by as I prefer that to a dearth of commas). Gut reaction is that this will be a fun read.

First reaction (first paragraph of novel) -- can we buy a verb please? Or ten?it's early to give up on a book for stylistic reasons but I would be tempted, if this weren't "required" reading (next discussion topic for a book group I'm in).
