I'd heard a lot of good things about Gabaldon. Must have been someone else they meant, as this amounts to nothing more than slashfiction. I was expecting something on the level of Temeraire: historical blended with the fantastic. This is just the mainstream equivalent of a badly written post on a fanfic forum. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Nancy was a self-insert.

A well-written book on the exploits of an Australian officer in the employ of the CIA during the Vietnam War. Basically what Apocalypse Now was, but for real. A recommendation if I ever wrote one.
