Finished book 1 - the story didn't go in the direction I expected. I suppose that's a good thing, but it left me feeling a bit at a loss. I had hoped for more exploration of the differences and the societal impact of the 'post-humans.'

So far, this period of history is quite interesting. While we teach that the transition from alchemy to chemistry was gradual, students don't get a good grasp of that. It's nice to explore it in more detail than one can in a class setting.
