Currently re-reading this and re-listening to the audible of Nick Cave's 'The Death of Bunny Munro' I feel like I'm on the cusp of being arrested for some sex crime

Rereading nearly exactly two years on since the first time. Charles reminds me a bit of Morrissey - but with an obviously greater sexual interest and prowess.

This book could be peddled as an anti-drug advertisement, if only for the reason that if I even thought taking smack would group me in with someone as cringe-worthy as Gemma I never woulda touched the stuff

Am a bit irked by Gemma's eyes being likened to 'marbles' after she's smoked H - considering smack pins the pupils. Have also never known H to be inhaled the way it's described (straight into open mouth, rather than via a straw / 'tooter'). Tried this method after reading Burgess' description of it to no success.

Enjoying this so far - though some of the characters are irritating and the 'anti-establishment', 'you are not free' tirades are trite and cliche. 'Spose you need to judge YA fiction with a lower expectation than you would adult literature though

Love the part with the mask theft: Holly's spontaneity and impishness. And Fred's "successful theft exhilarates." Capote is great at description - no filler, just crafts the image he wants to convey

Sucked into this so far. Capote writes clearly. Holly is someone I'd be both intimidated and irritated by. But ultimately she's endearing: amicable, interesting and a bit lost. Get a dreaded feeling things won't end too well for Golightly. Prove me wrong, Penguin Classics

Clever. The amount of sundry subject research that must've gone into the novel prior to writing (from moths to tailorship) is not wasted

Don't want to stop reading because I'm too excited about what's going to happen in the next chapter (Lecter's escape)! But, alas, there's an errand that needs to be run. Really enjoying the novel

Probably the pinnacle of crime fiction (a genre criticised for its familiarities / similarities across novels). So much happens without it ever feeling forced, overwhelming or hard to keep up with
