This book is annoying me so far because it reads as if it’s two female characters playing two men. This normally wouldn’t be an issue but when you’re trying to convey that the two men are closeted in the 1950’s when you could be persecuted for being a gay man, it falls short. The writing is as if it’s a modern queer romance when it’s supposed to be a setting of high stakes, it acts as if there are none.
