So. Much. Gore. Not enough to pull me in.

Amazing. Heartbreaking. Can’t wait to teach some of this with Macbeth.

SO hard. Lots of trauma in the first chapter. And then the next two chapters are new locations and characters so there’s a lot to learn. I just watched a super traumatic movie that I’m STILL not over that was horrific. So it’s been hard for me to get into this one.

Rereading because I think I’m going to teach it next year. 💖. It’s SO good.

Sloggish, gets more compelling near the end. Tells everything, shows nothing—no draw-in. The anthropology reads like a list, telling not showing; fascinating material reduced to bullet points. Characters are static, already at their best, with little to learn, so the show’s less compelling than it could be. Tons of queer representation, love that. But the two main relationships are cis het so…😣

Meh. But mostly compelling.

Reviews said this one had a lot of non-consensual abuse. Like straight-up lots of beating up the mc. Lots of I don’t know if I can do it.

Ugh. This has been SUCH a slog. Booktok keeps going crazy for this so I keep trying to but it’s SO slow. And blech. Like—they keep fucking but they low key hate each other. It’s Stockholm syndrome and just…idk. Denial of true feelings is such an old and worn trope. And not even done well. And then all of a sudden they just love each other. Just like that. Idk. Not loving it.

Oof!!! It’s SO long. So long. And SO complicated. But…I think there are many characters that are poc but hey all read as white? Which…🤷‍♀️ IDK. It took my 55 chapters to get into it. I’m constantly confused. Sticking with it because of so many positive reviews. I just think this is really not my cup of tea, despite all the queerness. SO much Mind-numbing world building, and the writing is so bland.

Loving it. It’s 90% why happened on screen with a few juicy tidbits we didn’t get to see. But I love hearing Christine’s voice. Love it. And the journey of her coming into her own is 100% worth it. 💝
