Starting a quick re-read to see how it compares to the show

This is one of those books I pirated when I got my first ereader 10+ years ago that's always sat in my library so I've been getting through it in an attempt to read more non-fiction. The story of a complete and total asshole who pushed himself and others to make some damn good products. He certainly fucked up some lives in the process. A good example of why you shouldn't worship people based on their output.

Book starts out with a lot of good interpersonal details to give a lot of texture to Romero's life. However by the time he starts working on Wolfenstein 3D and Doom the writing becomes all about the tech. His ex-wife, kids, current girlfriend, Carmack getting rid of his cat, all only get the most briefest mentions. Even if Romero was hyper focused on the games then he doesn't look back and realize this is weird?

Read it in 3 weeks before it gets auto-returned to the library challenge begins

Describing this book would sound boring but Ann Leckie manages to make what is essentially a bunch of meetings exciting.

This shit crazy. One chapter of action. The rest is philosophy. Frank Herbert really set himself up over 3 books to get to the place where he could talk about his worldview nearly the whole time. The ACAB part in chapter 26 was a highlight. Enjoying it greatly

Welp thought I’d take a Dune break but I read the beginning and cannot put this down. Incredible what this series has built to 🤯
