They all sound too contemporary and…woke, like twenty somethings who pride themselves in getting every woke point checked from some list thus seeming naive and unrealistic in a dystopian world. The writing is. Characters can be very empathetic and whatnot but just the way it’s written is a bit over the top.

I don’t really like how Larkin keeps noticing Doyle’s different features that are attractive—his whiskey-like voice, his veins, his height..he mustve described doyle’s smile in 10 different ways by now and all of this we have to read through his point of view and it’s uncomfortable. My guy you are married.

The main characters are villains in other people's stories, though the designated villains in this series are worse than they are.
