Emily is finished with Gentleman of Her Dreams (Ladies of Distinction, #0.5)
1/17 or 18?/17* I really enjoyed this one. It was ridiculous and it didn't try too hard to be taken seriously, (it was like having contemporary characters set in a different era, with long words thrown in, and a slightly contorted speech pattern to make the dialog seem more historically accurate), but I really enjoyed reading it. It was fun. Made me laugh several times. 4 stars.

1/15/17-1/17/17* Cute. :) 4 stars. **PS from 7/10/17** Sometimes I just don't feel like writing anything much. It doesn't mean there was anything wrong with the book.

Emily is finished with Fate Takes A Hand
... Her 8-year-old cousin always calling the hero up when something went wrong was cute/funny too (as well as the hero's amusement at shocking the heroine by showing up when she needed him most and least expected to see him). And her cook and his butler ending up together--LOL *THAT* was cute. ;) 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars.

1/14-15/17* Not my favorite BN. There wasn't enough warmth/peace/contentment in the H/h's relationship along the way. They really didn't spend much time together and they were kind of wary of each other. But the book had its cute and funny moments as usual; they're always worth reading. Some of her opening scenes in the flower shop (their first meetings) were pretty funny. ...

Emily is finished with Polly
1/11-13/17* Oh, THAT was a good one! Very funny, lively/entertaining and cute. Polly and Sam (and even the supporting characters) were very likeable. Loved it! Definitely a favorite (top 2 or 3, I'm thinking). 5 stars. :) **PS from 7/9/17** Still remembering this as a MAJOR BN favorite. DEFINITELY re-readable.

Emily is finished with A Lady of Esteem (Hawthorne House, #0.5)
1/12/17* Cute. Not really, really historically accurate/polished, I'm thinking (not that I'd know much about it), but light, a little humorous, and enjoyable. And the faith part was also light and totally about grace (need more of that in books!). 3.5/4 stars. **PS from 7/7/17** Why on earth did I give this book 3.5 stars? I remember really liking it. Was thinking more like 4.5 stars. Oh, well.

Emily is finished with Magic in Vienna (The Best of Betty Neels)
1/11/17* Aww, cute and funny. I liked it a lot, but we did have to go through some misery at the very beginning, and again, right near the end. Still, it was a cute one. :) 4/4.5 stars. **PS** as of 7/7/17, I had forgotten there was anything to complain about within this book. And there was at least one part I thought HYSTERICALLY funny (hint: bookworm) and can still quote today. So, 5 stars, instead. A favorite.

Somewhere between 1/6 and 1/10/17*
Not my FAVORITE BN (mainly, because it took them too long to work things out and along the way, we were subjected to the H's derisive, unkind thoughts about the h, right up until he mistakenly thought she was engaged, at which point he decided he loved her (a little fickle, what?), but cute and enjoyable in spite of that, as all BN's are. 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars.

...She was a character (my favorite type of Betty Neels heroine)! And he was funny and likable too, though, I was a little shocked by a few of the things he said, a little unusual for a BN hero; sometimes for the better, sometimes worse. Still, 5 stars. I like the humorous ones best! :) **PS** Loads of back-written(?) updates (also known as the coward's review) to be added periodically as I catch up.

I really liked Lucy. I about died (or, at least, sat there smacking my knee repeatedly and wheezing) when she made Fraam (the hero/highly successful Dutch surgeon) angry and then told him he looked so put out, it would really help him to go home, take 2 aspirin, and have a 30-minute nap (and needless to say, he didn't appreciate her suggestion)! LOL! XD

Emily is finished with Roses Have Thorns
The servants she ended up working with were cute, and I liked hearing about her cat, Charles; the pets in BN's books are frequently mentioned in sweet and funny ways and are almost like secondary characters. :) I hope, if I ever write a book, to do the same. That's just one of the many things that make reading her books like eating comfort food. Cute book, as usual. 4 stars.

1/1-3/17* Not my FAVORITE BN, but enjoyable. I liked Sarah and although the professor was almost constantly irritated, his small temper tantrums made for some funny moments, and I liked him as well, when he wasn't causing too much trouble (and sometimes, when he was). At least he had a good reason for being temperamental.

Emily is finished with The Final Touch
12/30/16-1/1/17* Marriage of convenience plots are never my favorite, but this one was tolerable. The hero and heroine were kind and likable, though maybe a little bland at times. Having said that, I love Betty Neels and intend to read every book she wrote. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4, as usual. PS I wish Eunice had dropped dead. LOL. She would have been perfect for Van Kamp (I think that was his name)!

Emily is finished with Matilda's Wedding
12/28-30(?)/16* I enjoyed this. It was cute, as all B.N.'s are. :) Matilda was a little quirky, which I always appreciate, and once the doctor started noticing her, he was kind and took good care of her. But she was overworked and constantly used and insulted by her mother(!), insulted by the hero's fiancé, and, in the beginning, overlooked or forgotten by the hero. Still, it was a cute book. 4 stars.

Emily is finished with Marrying Mary
12/-28/16* This one was hilariously whimsical, with all the cute, nutty relatives. It was really cute and funny, and, in spite of the H and h being a little wary of each other (each erroneously thinking the other didn't like them, and thus, having a somewhat uncomfortable relationship, lacking in warmth), I really, REALLY enjoyed this book. 4/4.5 stars? 5? Not sure. I'll round it up to 5.

Emily is finished with The Mistletoe Kiss
Loved it! Emmy was quirky and funny and I really liked her and I liked the professor, too, once I got past his behavior on their first meeting. Being one of BN's later books (late '90's?), she included thoughts from the heroine AND the hero's perspective, which I like a lot better. A really cute, sweet, and funny book. 5 stars. Another FAVORITE BN.

Emily is reading Not Once But Twice
12/18-20/16* Another cute BN. A little different than what I've read so far (it started out with the heroine liking the hero's younger brother). Not my FAVORITE BN, mainly because it took a long time for them to settle things, yet there wasn't a lot of pleasant interaction along the way, and also because Christina wasn't quite as easy to like as some of BN's other heroines, but I liked it fine. 3.5/4 stars

12/14-17/16* Sara Rosett's books are not the most warm, romantic, or the funniest books I've ever read, but once you get used to her style, they're usually very clean (NEVER more than 4 or 5 mild curse words; usually between 1 and 3), well-written/thought-out, and enjoyable. Her characters are subtle, but have kindness and decency and a little humor. They're nice; I like them. :) 4 stars.

Emily is finished with Loose Screw (Dusty Deals Mystery, #1)
...(like going to bars to pick up men, which doesn't seem like a superb idea), but it was pretty funny and lighthearted, and, when she wasn't making dumb choices, the heroine was likable. I'll probably try the next one and return it if I can't take the content. 3/3.5/4 stars? I'll give it 4, because it was a really fun read ...when I wasn't offended. LOL. And it was a who-dun-it, which I prefer to suspense novels.

12/17/16* I got this (free) on 11/12 but didn't start reading it until sometime near the start of December. I believe I read it in 3 sittings over the course of 2 weeks (I kept getting irritated/put-off by the content). It wasn't as decent as I would have liked (quite a few mild-medium curse words! + a slightly disgusting kiss with the rough, arrogant hero), and I didn't agree with everything the heroine did...

12/11-16/16 Ah, what a relief after the last three B.N.'s! Loved this one. Sweet, likable characters, and no really big, annoying misunderstandings (that I can remember), just a very cute, funny, and enjoyable book. 4.5/5 stars.
