The Shadow Over Innsmouth was a surprise for how good it was. I suppose even after reading the witch house story, I'm still underestimating the good bits of Lovecraft from the sour taste his short stories are putting in my mouth.

I skipped ahead and read the witch house because wow i really love nyarlathotep. its a big shame he didnt make more appearances in in lovecraft's works (that we can be aware) but many creatures and terrible nightmarish beasts in media have been noted to be him like some sort of cult following. It's like nyarlathotep has his own religion amongst horror fans transcending media in making him real.

Lovecraft sure is a dense read.

King when I was younger.

Man I'm really liking this book so far. It's no Game of Thrones of course, but it's well written and the characters aren't annoying. I'm fairly interested in the plot too! Bonuses all around

I think I may be a bigger fan of Lauren Oliver's style of writing than Armentrouts, but this is still a pretty interesting self-indulgent read. When I pick this up, I just eat right through it.

Our protagonist has all the tells of once being a wonderful man, falling into the slums of lethargy and laziness. That's why his wife had married him. Ya know, and then he decided not to work anymore, and expected praise for doing the smallest things. Toru literally sits around the house all day while his wife overworks herself, and he sees no issue with this. What a shit.
