First off, I do like how the main character Peyton is a relatable guy. He's not perfect by any means, but he's at least trying to better himself.

Second, This doesn't feel as fast paced as the summary is making it out to be. Either I'm missing something or this needed some more editing because this kind of feels like a slog so far.

So far I sympathize with the main character, but at times he comes off as whiney. I hope we can see some character growth as we go on.

Fantastic world building though. Not a 'utopia', but not a 'dystopia', just a world that from the character's pov is better than ours, but isn't perfect.

Even though I have never been a direct target of verbal abuse, domestic violence, or anything like that. This book has been difficult to read because of how Doug talks to Annie.
