Listening to a single story at a time. About half way through.

I was struggling with this book. Le Guin’s philosophical musings can be, occasionally, a wind storm of poetic obscurity. I had no idea what was going on around me.

But I found myself on firmer ground with the essays on domesticity and the artistic life. And Le Guin’s reviews are absolutely delightful. Getting close to the end.

This book is primarily about attachment theory, just the kind of well-research psychological foundation I like. Hit me with your empirically tested research findings!

I have no idea what’s going on. Perhaps a little too much philosophising for me.

I’ve decided that life’s too short to spend another nine hours listening to these hollow pieces of journalism

Perhaps this would be more enjoyable if I hadn’t recently revisited Angela Carter’s brutally incisive Shaking a Leg. Unfortunately, Gaiman seems to only write when he can be utterly inoffensive in his accolades. His raptures about his (almost universally male) peers have become white noise. I find my thoughts drifting and I don’t regret the missing words. Gaiman’s journalism is like eating wrapping paper.

Twenty-six hours of Angela Carter seemed like a good idea at the time. But this isn't a single narrative; it's hundreds of small journalistic morsels. I'm getting through the second half of the collection, but I'll probably spread it out over the next six months.

I didn't finish this before it had to go back to the library. Waiting for it to become available again.

Testosterone Rex is an amazing book. I might have to pick up a hard copy so I can scribble in the margins.

Vive la resistance.
