The examples from the Nassau and Sandusky cases are very hard to listen to.

“The Pulley” by George Herbert 🩷 great poem, and I had never read it before. Helpful explanation by Ryken.

Still slowly making my way through this book.

“The illusion of asymmetric insight”: when I assume that I know more about other people than they know about me (because I am so nuanced an complex, but also smart enough to read them based on tiny clues)… great description. I believe this is called pride?

One thing I’ll say for this book so far is that it makes me feel better for being fooled so easily.

Yeah, not going to finish this. Too dark. Can’t do it.

I thought “The Road” was bleak and violent… but it’s downright tame in comparison to this.

Rereading this gem.

A good, short book worth rereading.

Not every selection seems “devotional” but Ryken’s helpful comments and scripture references on “Most Glorious Lord of Life” by Edmund Spenser definitely was. As a literature major, I appreciate the explanation, historical context, and comments on style and structure.

New Year’s Day 2026: just started Isaiah and I’ll be continuing through the OT at my own pace while adding in an NT in one year schedule with some people from church. Also participating in Bible Study Fellowship, this year is “exile and return”.

This is a fun read!
