Have started this one several times and not making much progress. The start is not capturing my imagination. But will try again

I think this book is pretty decent but please don't listen to it. The female narrator is especially horrible - all the understanding and nuance of a fourth-grader asked to read aloud in class.
I think the writing contributes to this; it's not a great literary work. But it is an interesting tale. I am continuing on to see how she wraps it all up.

I am having difficulty sustaining interest in this. I don't particularly care for the main character; I infinitely prefer his sidekick, Mark. And, knowing how it all plays out, I can't rustle up much support for either the Roman Catholic Church or the Reformers.

Listening to the book so is it the narrator or the writing I am responding to? That said, all I can say is "Really?"
France was magical when I was there as a student so post divorce I sell my home in scary, dangerous Boston & move across the ocean to open a gite in the French countryside that I imagine resembles something in a Hallmark travelogue. My French is rusty. I'll be fine - I'm a plucky Americaine!

Stacielynn is 55% done with Blood Hollow (Cork O'Connor, #4)
SPOILERS: I sure as hell hope I find other readers calling out the author for what appears to be acceptance of a totally inappropriate relationship between a teenage girl and a married man whose daughter is the same age.
At this point in my reading Neither Cork nor any other adults have expressed outrage, disgust, or anger about the situation.
If the author doesn’t address this travesty going forward I am done.

i am finding this book a pretty run-of-the-mill romance rather than the compelling fact-based historical fiction i expected. the title expired when i was on the last chapter....

I am listening to this book. Maybe it’s the narrators, but I am finding these characters annoying and stereotypical. Maybe it gets better?

Stacielynn is starting The Women on the Porch (Southern Classics Series)
this book was one of many well-regarded mid-20th-century novels written by a woman who lived in my hometown of Princeton, NJ. Caroline Gordon was the recipient of a 1932 Guggenheim Fellowship and a 1934 O. Henry Award.
the house she shared with noted poet Allen Tate was the subject of some social media discussion and that is how i learned of her. ordered this book to read in my hammock over the summer.

Stacielynn is on page 230 of 352 of Smoke Screen: Riveting suspense with a second-chance romance
The plot is thin, the characters are cookie cutter and the end is clear from the start. In short, it meets the minimum requirements for a beach read. But I will never make this mistake again. I believe books with this kind of over-riding theme should be clearly labeled.

Picked this up on a quick trip through the sale fiction pile and had no idea it was a Christian best seller. Bought it to read on the beach and I will finish it because I don’t mind skipping the overdone preachy parts.

well this book is pretty disappointing. about halfway through i checked reviews and it seems fans were also unimpressed with this, the final installment in the series.
i was hoping i had found a new series to explore, but i can't imagine reading more.

Stacielynn is starting Dakota (Andi Oliver, #2)
On Chapter 21 and pretty bored with this book. I broke my rule and looked at reviews to see if I am missing something. Plenty of praise for the author's style, but I'm just lost. Perhaps Andi is supposed to appear spontaneous and winsomely enthusiasti, but she is thoughtless and disorganized to me. What is this about? A woman with memory loss seeking her identity? Large scale animal farming? Life in the Western US ?

Stacielynn is starting Princess Elizabeth's Spy (Maggie Hope, #2)
I chose this series because it was likened to the excellent Jacqueline Winspear books, which I also listened to. The jury is out on whether or not I can bear to listen to this book. I am not sure if the writing, characters or plot are any good since I am so terribly distracted by the narration.
The narrator is one of the worst ever. Terrible accents, awful pacing, and absurd intonations.

came across this series while browsing for something new. i have read a bit and am finding it a little fluff-brained for my taste.
in addition - the main character talking about having hedgehogs outside her home is just lazy research AND editing. there are no hedgehogs in north america!
will no doubt stick it out and report back when i have completed it all.
