Good memoir, interesting stories. But 2 problems with the first 2 recipes. Whole strawberries with a sprinkle of sugar on top, mashed with a fork. Seriously?. Loved the family story, but this is a bit contrived. 2nd, the jam making. As a jam maker myself, do the research. USDA guidelines! Her recipe =Botulism!

Am reading a series by Shaber, tried to read this before & didn't much about it. The first 2 books in the series show some of the hallmarks of a fairly new writer. Awkward phrasing, infodumps of historical information, & stuff that isn't correct made it a little challenging. Each book gets better, & plots are great. It helps that I find the history interesting. Recommend trying it out, this author is worth reading.

Have been reading Sara Paretsky lately. I would have sworn I had already read at least the first ten of the books in her V.I. Warshawski series, but I remember so little of the plots, that it is possible I didn't. I can remember starting to read her books back in the early 1990s, and eventually I stopped following the series, because it was too bitter and the graphic violence was too much for me. (cont'd)

This is turning into a yr of reading journey books. Have always wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail & now am rdng Thru-hikers memoirs. It is funny, you get a feel very quickly for whether or not a book is worth reading. Some of the books are very day by day lists & others are far more philosophical and share a little more heart. Most interesting are the ones for the PDT & Camino del Santiago. Will I do it? Maybe.

Reads more like a memoir in some ways. Very informal, breezy treatment of the subject and an enjoyable read so far.

Interesting so far. It would be great to see more proof of some of the history she talks about.

Utterly self-absorbed woman, who flew into frequent fits of anger. I would've been afraid to be a friend of hers & be treated so badly. Interesting so far, however.
