Closest thing I get to a holiday in Greece for now

Not sure this counts as reading a book. Puzzling a book perhaps?

According to my notes, I should have read this for a course in spring 2000. There is a bookmark from that attempt on page 41.

I think I might be more enthused by this book if I hadn't spent 10 years of my life studying most of the things they talk about (aside from Chinese and silver).

Better at story than characters

Okay. We need to talk about excessive footnotes in popular writing: Please don't. Either it's interesting enough to write in the text, or it narrow enough to be a reference.

I'm spending the day on hospital and would rather be in Greece.
(I probably still dislike Hislop, but ⬆️)

I'm still knee-deep in my project to read ALL the books about lexicographical stuff. Woe.

Clearly, in the future we do not have the attention span to read chapters longer than three pages.
(It's exhausting)

I'll admit it. I may have bought this book just so can sit reading it in the sun and feel meta.

Clearly I'm not seeing what other people have seen when reading this book. If I'm finishing this one, it'll be out of spite. I cannot connect with the characters, probably because of the way the story is told.

I suddenly realised that I've actually never read the whole of the Aeneid in Latin.
Must be rectified so pomposity can be restored.

I need a tag for 'stuff I find on my Kindle I have no recollection of buying'

Since I'm now working as a lexicographer, I have to read all the books about lexicons, lexicography and lexicographers.
Life is hard.

Started this ages ago. Trying again (although not particularly enthusiastic).

I have a penchant for books of people travelling to Greece, but half way through, and we're still in England.
(Say nothing about the plot, it is, as one would guess, utterly predictable.)
