Why does this book read like it was written by AI?

Sam is basically a toned-down version of Jude from A Little Life. It bothers me how alike they are.

I just don’t feel the need to finish this.

What is the central conflict of this book? I’m halfway through and I do not know what scattered storyline I’m supposed to invest in. I didn’t have any DNF books in 2021, but it looks like I’ll have at least one for 2022.

2/3rds done. I understand the satire, but I don’t think it’s well-executed.

So far, here is a list of things people do on the beach:
-knit sweaters and socks
-wear full evening dresses
-rake gravel
-try to determine who is in the plot without knowing what the plot is
-have pneumatic rubber horses
-wear transparent black lace swim trunks w/ nude lining
-watch people on their death beds
-use megaphones
-go to war for 8 different countries
-saw a waiter in two
-get angry about burning witches

Two major plot elements in the span of three pages, no connection between them, after 1/3 of the book just watching the main character eat. I’m enjoying how bad this is.

Apparently the only point of this book being set in Manhattan is so the author can waste paragraphs upon paragraphs describing whatever five-star food and wine pairing the main character eats on her dates.

It's now 2020, two years after I started this book. I cannot get through it. I have like, 100 pages left. Worth it?

I just want to know at what point did my life became chick lit?

Why haven’t I read this sooner?

Emma and Rodolphe remind me so much of Scarlett and Rhett from Gone with the Wind.

I've only ever read the Hippolyte passages until now--figured it was time to read the whole thing.

I’m not very far along, but I already know this book is going to stick with me for a long time.

My intellectual curiosity urges me to read this book. Reading alongside _By the Lake of Sleeping Children_ by Luis Alberto Urrea.

Predictable and tame. The writing doesn’t live up to the book’s ambitious plot. Whether or not I’ll finish it remains to be seen.

I have no reason to read this other than I found it on a cruise ship coffee shop and chuckled for a minute at the thought that someone thought cruise ship passengers would enjoy a biography of Charlotte Bronte.

I’m not impressed so far.
