Halfway through this piece of crap and it's all whiny peronal melodrama. They haven't even talked about plans for taking down The Reestablishment yet except to all agree they have no chance but have to try anyway. And Juliette suddenly overnight grew the spine she should've developed last book; unfortunately she still hasn't grown the brain to go with it.

Oh yeah, forgot about that meaningless plot point. How long are these two going to be walking around and talking? That's all this stupid book is so far!

It's still actually decent, although at this point it is starting to feel kind of long. It doesn't help that Lena's birthday keeps on being mentioned as a timestamp and it's like, Oh noes, only 157 days left! Only 120 days left! Only 100 days now! Etc. etc. i think by this point there are maybe 70 days left and I'm a little more than halfway through this monstrous book...

It's not nearly as bad as I was expecting so far. It's actually decent--not riveting or remarkably unique, and though some of the Southern Gothickyness is a little overdone, the text seems self-aware of it and Ethan acknowledges it, which makes it more bearable.

Excpt for the constant mentioning of how Lena smells like lemons and rosemary and the Mammy portrayal of Amma, the book isn't as terrible as I was expecting so far. It's pretty much typical YA supernatural romance only from the boy's POV.

Okay, that was a short story, not a novella. It was okay, and actually less annoying/thinlynplotted than the other (actual) novellas, although everything was extremely generic and predictable.

Uh so I'm halfway through the book and hardly anything has happened. So it's pretty slow, but it oddly doesn't bother me too much--except that I don't know where any of this is going still. Also not sure how I feel about the blatant speeches about diversity coupled with the stereotypical portrayal of "foreign" cultures--i.e. China has "silk and spices" while the Sioux Indians are the wise wild men.
