Really enjoying this book so far.

I'm enjoying this so far. While the big mystery is up front - who is the killer? - the smaller questions are pulling me in now. What did Serafina do? And what exactly were the circumstances that led to the children's death? I'm also drawn by the complexities - I tend to think of World War II as black and white. But what is the difference between a German, an Italian, and a Nazi?

So far, this is entertaining but definitely young adult. There's quite a bit of action, so I'm thinking junior high/high school boys would be a good audience. There is no subtlety in the writing - everything is spelled out.

It's starting to get intriguing. This book swaps back and forth in time, with newspaper articles interspersed between - just when something starts to get interesting, the point of view changes.

This was slow going at first - I have to like or at least feel a connection to the main character. Took a while, but I think I'm finally there.

Interesting so far - I'm not overly familiar with the British/Indian relationship in the 1930s, so this covers some new historical ground for me.
