Rereading it now that Disney is releasing an adaptation next year. I want my memories of Artie properly refreshed before Disney ruins it.

Kevin has to be the best, most practical time-traveller's husband in all fiction. I love this guy!

I just now realised this was published in 1979. I honestly thought it was written in the last decade. Dana could easily be out contemporary.

I really really like it. It's taking ages for the two to meet, but it's super fun while they get to it. Also I love Libby. Best matchmaker ever.

It must be that my tastes have changed. Stuff that never bothered me before are making reading this book impossible. Foremost among them is the fact that there is not an iota of wit displayed by any character here but words and phrases like 'wit', 'banter', 'razor sharp tongue', 'repartee' are thrown around with irritating regularity to convince us that the protagonists are definitely saying something smart. Bah.

I really liked Lee. Her narrative has a familiar snarky, self deprecating tone but I liked looking at the world coloured through her vision. She has definite opinions, a tendency to judge which she struggles against and has low tolerance for idiots and people who think she can't make up her own mind.

Something the blurb doesn't tell you is that Karish (the unbearable, aristocratic Lord) and Lee are both trainees till they find the other half of their Pair. So Karish is boyish and just as inexperienced as Lee on the field. Despite his talent and reputation he's still new to the power of being Paired. So most of the arrogance is really in Lee's head because of all the rumours she's heard about him.

Done. Loved the book. It could easily work as a stand alone but the reader is left with the need to see what happens to our heroine, Mara, next. Does she really become the threat that the Warlord thinks she might someday be?
My only complaint is that her last plot - the one that was the climax to all other plots - was only saved by the timely insertion of a deus ex machina.
I wish she'd triumphed completely unaided

Slow start. The first two chapters described Every. Single. Thing. Happily, the plot got going and I'm 65% done and very happy with this book. I love clever, ruthless protags.

Do they still have those children's books where a group f children sit around their teacher and ask questions and the teacher patiently answers? This reads a lot like that.
"So what happens next, Daniel?"
"Well, you see Mike, there is yet another person who thinks Francis Bacon was Shakespeare and here's what he has to say about the matter..."
Okay so that's my impression till now. Let's see if things change.

This reads less like a novel and more like a student's text book, but not in a dry way. The author takes up similar circumstances in different generations and points out how the family repeats its mistakes again and again. It's actually great to read a book like this AFTER you've already read the Mahabharata (unabridged). Of course if you're not into reading large works of mythic fiction, this is an excellent intro.

I love the line-art illustrations; almost all of them suggest an action or motion that compliments the narrative nicely. But I'm a little disappointed with the narrative.

I think I'm reading this so slowly because I'm afraid of what's ahead. A disappointed, betrayed and bitter voice began the story...I don't want to find out what happened to put that much hurt in that voice.

I know it has been said before, but PEOPLE this guy finally brings back that quality in Regency romances that we loved in Heyer!! (And yes Austen too, but for many reasons I wont compare contemporary authors with her.)

The trouble is, since about the halfway mark I've been feeling like I'm reading a protracted epilogue. I wish she'd rounded the story off where I hit 50% or continued giving us more incidents from her childhood, because distance by time has given the perspective necessary to make those little stories amazingly funny and endearing.

By now we've discussed marriageable age in Austen World, sleeping arrangements of our heroines, how the primary characters addressed each other and what those names denoted on scales of respect and affection, how the Austen men and women looked and how every Austen book was touched by death though the author made it clear that those who mourned the longest didn't necessarily mourn the deepest.
I like this book. =D

This was highly anticipated by me for months. My eagerness to read it only increased after I got my hands on Team Human. So near halfway through the book I've decided to pause a moments because I just realized that the next book wont be released till late next year. And this book is all I'll have of Jared and Kami till then.

there are so many commonsensical question we never ask about the rituals and traditions in our own religions. This is a good short introduction to the Hindu pantheon of gods and a simple exploration of some of our common and often bewildering customs attached to their worship.
